A memory controller, comprising:

• a controller memory configured to store control instructions;
• and
• a controller processor coupled to the controller memory and configured to execute the control instructions to perform processing comprising:
• determining being at a read scenario with a queue depth of 1;
• receiving a read operation instruction from a host;
• determining a first read command based on the read operation instruction, wherein the first read command includes a first physical address, and the first physical address corresponds to a first die;
• and
• sending the first read command to the first die;
• and
• sending a second read command to a second die different from the first die in parallel, wherein the second read command is for patrolling.

A method of operating a memory controller, comprising:

• determining being at a read scenario with a queue depth of 1;
• receiving a read operation instruction from a host;
• determining a first read command based on the read operation instruction, wherein the first read command includes a first physical address, and the first physical address corresponds to a first die;
• sending the first read command to the first die;
• and
• sending a second read command to a second die different from the first die, wherein the second read command is for patrolling.
