Machine-Based Classification of Object Motion as Human or Non-Human as Basis to Facilitate Controlling Whether to Trigger Device Action

A computing system comprising:

• at least one processor;
• non-transitory data storage;
• and
• program instructions stored in the non-transitory data storage and executable by the at least one processor to carry out operations including:
• tracking motion of an object, including receiving sensor data representing object motion detected by at least one sensor, wherein the object motion detected by the at least one sensor defines the motion of the object,
• making a determination, based at least on an evaluation of the received sensor data, of whether the object motion detected by the at least one sensor changes direction at a threshold high rate, and
• based at least on the determination being that the object motion detected by the at least one sensor changes direction at the threshold high rate, abandoning tracking of the motion of the object.

At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon program instructions executable by at least one processor to carry out operations comprising:

• tracking motion of an object, including receiving sensor data representing object motion detected by at least one sensor, wherein the object motion detected by the at least one sensor defines the motion of the object;
• making a determination, based at least on an evaluation of the received sensor data, of whether the object motion detected by the at least one sensor changes direction at a threshold high rate;
• and
• based at least on the determination being that the object motion detected by the at least one sensor changes direction at the threshold high rate, abandoning tracking of the motion of the object.
