Abstract
Embodiments of a wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) system include a support structure for wearing by an ambulatory patient, a posture detector and at least one processor. When worn, the support structure maintains electrodes on the patient's body, and using the posture detector and the patient's ECG received via the electrodes, the processor determines the patient's posture, formulates posture-based templates of QRS complexes, and the patient's heart rate. The processor can use these determinations to distinguish between VT and SVT and make no-shock, and shock decisions.
Claims20
A wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) system, comprising:
- a support structure configured to be worn by a patient;
- a memory configured to store a plurality of posture-based templates;
- a plurality of electrodes configured to provide a plurality of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals of the patient in a plurality of ECG channels;
- and
- one or more processors configured to:
- determine a heart rhythm from at least one ECG channel of the plurality of ECG channels, wherein the heart rhythm comprises one or more beats;
- determine a final rhythm classification of the heart rhythm;
- classify the heart rhythm as non-shockable when the final rhythm classification corresponds to supraventricular tachycardia (SVT);
- and
- cause a defibrillation shock to be delivered when a ventricular tachycardia (VT) threshold is met and the final rhythm classification corresponds to VT.
A method for use with a wearable defibrillator, the method comprising:
- receiving, via a plurality of electrodes, a plurality of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals of a patient in a plurality of ECG channels;
- determining, by one or more processors of the wearable defibrillator, a heart rhythm from at least one ECG signal over each of the plurality of ECG channels, wherein the heart rhythm comprises one or more beats;
- determining, by the one or more processors, a final rhythm classification of the heart rhythm;
- classify, by the one or more processors, the heart rhythm as non-shockable when the final rhythm classification corresponds to supraventricular tachycardia (SVT);
- and
- cause a defibrillation shock to be delivered through the plurality of electrodes when a ventricular tachycardia (VT) threshold is met and the final rhythm classification corresponds to VT.
