A composition comprising a UV absorbing system comprising at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material, preferably at least one metal oxide selected from oxides of titanium, chromium, zinc, tin, alumina, cerium, and/or iron, and at least one flavone, wherein the flavone is present in an amount sufficient to increase UV efficacy of the at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material present in the composition.
