Ue power class fallback in wireless communication systems

A user equipment (UE), comprising:

• a transceiver configured to receive information for an uplink (UL) transmission and a downlink (DL) reception on a cell;
• and
• a processor operably coupled with the transceiver, the processor configured to:
• determine, based on the information, a first UE maximum output power for an UL transmission bandwidth according to a first UE power class associated with the UL transmission in a first subset of slots from a set of slots on the cell;
• determine, based on the information, a second UE maximum output power for an UL transmission bandwidth according to a second UE power class associated with the UL transmission in a second subset of slots from the set of slots on the cell;
• and
• determine a first UL transmit power and a second UL transmit power based on the first and second UE maximum output powers, respectively,
• wherein the transceiver is further configured to:
• transmit, based on the first UL transmit power, an UL signal or channel in the first subset of slots;
• or
• transmit, based on the second UL transmit power, the UL signal or channel in the second subset of slots.

A base station (BS), comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a transceiver operably coupled with the processor, the transceiver configured to:
• transmit, to a user equipment (UE), information for an uplink (UL) transmission and a downlink (DL) reception on a cell, wherein the information indicates:
• a first UE maximum output power for an UL transmission bandwidth according to a first UE power class associated with the UL transmission in a first subset of slots from a set of slots on the cell, and
• a second UE maximum output power for an UL transmission bandwidth according to a second UE power class associated with the UL transmission in a second subset of slots from the set of slots on the cell;
• and
• receive, from the UE, one of:
• an UL signal or channel in the first subset of slots that was transmitted based on a first UL transmit power that is based on the first UE maximum output power;
• or
• the UL signal or channel in the second subset of slots that was transmitted based on a second UL transmit power that is based on the second UE maximum output power.
