System and method for securing a beach umbrella

Abstract

A safety device for securing a beach umbrella to a stationary object including a clamp and a tether is provided. The clamp is removably attached to a shaft of the beach umbrella. The tether is attached to the clamp and to the stationary object, such as a lounge chair. Spring clips may be provided at each end of the tether to removably secure the tether. The clamp may comprise first and second arc-shaped members with gripping means located on inner surfaces thereof to engage and grip an outer surface of the umbrella shaft. First ends of the arc-shaped members may be pivotally connected, and a fastener may be provided to releasably secure the second ends together to secure the clamp to the umbrella shaft. A method for securing the beach umbrella to a stationary object using the safety device is also provided.
