Abstract
In one embodiment, the disclosure includes a network node synchronization system. The system may include a first node. The first node may include a first host card comprising a first (TOD) time of day counter, a first digital signal processor (DSP) comprising a first DSP counter, and a first optical communication device comprising a first DSP communication channel, wherein the first DSP communication channel transports DSP frames. In various embodiments, the DSP is a coherent DSP.
Claims20
A method to synchronize a first network node and a second network node, the method comprising:
- providing the first network node comprising a first host TOD counter in communication with a first coherent DSP in the first network node running a first DSP TOD counter;
- providing the second network node comprising a second host TOD counter in communication with a second coherent DSP in the second network node running a second DSP TOD counter;
- synchronizing the first DSP TOD counter with the first host TOD counter;
- synchronizing the second DSP TOD counter with the second host TOD counter;
- generating a first embedded Pulse Per Second (ePPS) signal using the first host TOD counter that is transmitted to the first DSP TOD counter;
- and
- locking a phase of the first DSP TOD counter to a phase of the first host TOD counter using the first ePPS signal on the first network node.
A method to synchronize a first network node and a second network node, the method comprising:
- transmitting a first DSP message from the first network node to the second network node via a communication channel, wherein the first DSP message comprises a non-zero status value;
- transmitting a response from the second network node to the first network node via the communication channel, wherein the response comprises a non-zero status value;
- transmitting a second DSP message from the first network node to the second network node via the communication channel, wherein the second DSP message comprises a non-zero correction value;
- locking a phase of a second DSP TOD counter in the second network node to a phase of a first DSP TOD counter in the first network node using the second DSP message from the first network node;
- and
- locking the phase of a second host TOD counter in the second network node to the second DSP TOD counter, using the phase of the second DSP TOD counter.
A network comprising:
- a first network node comprising a first host TOD counter configured to communicate with a first coherent DSP in the first network node running a first DSP TOD counter;
- and
- a second network node comprising a second host TOD configured to communicate with a second coherent DSP in the second network node running a second DSP TOD counter,
- wherein the first network node is configured to synchronize the first DSP TOD counter with the first host TOD counter,
- wherein the second network node is configured to synchronize the second DSP TOD counter with the second host TOD counter;
- wherein the first network node is configured to generate a first embedded Pulse Per Second (ePPS) signal using the first host TOD counter that is transmitted to the first DSP TOD counter;
- and
- wherein the first network node is configured lock a phase of the first DSP TOD counter to a phase of the first host TOD counter using the first ePPS signal.
