Abstract
An optical lens board structure has at least one type of a plurality of domed optical lenses disposed over a plurality of dedicated lamps configured to illuminate horizontal and/or adjacent vertical surface/s with light output variability over vertical and horizontal surfaces by controlling power input to at least two groups of lamps coupled to the bottom surface of an orientation specific luminaire.
Claims22
An orientation specific luminaire for illuminating an elongated space defined by a floor and a first vertical surface, the orientation specific luminaire comprising:
- a housing having a downward facing side;
- a mechanical orientation device coupled to the housing configured to set an azimuthal orientation of the housing relative to a longitudinal axis of the elongated space;
- a light source supported by the downward facing side of the housing, the light source having a plurality of lamps distributed across a planar structure;
- and
- an optical lens board structure disposed over the plurality of lamps, the optical lens board structure having a plurality of domed optical lenses, the plurality of domed optical lenses including
- a first set of lenses having asymmetrical optics, and
- a second set of lenses having symmetrical optics, wherein
- the first set of lenses is configured to direct a first light intensity toward the first vertical surface, and the second set of lenses is configured to direct a second light intensity toward the floor, wherein the first light intensity is greater than the second light intensity, and,
- light rays exiting the plurality of domed optical lenses at 45° above nadir with respect to the orientation specific luminaire directed toward a path of travel in the aisle are redirected toward at least one first side of the aisle.
An orientation specific luminaire for illuminating an aisle, the orientation specific luminaire comprising:
- a housing having a downward facing side;
- a light source supported by the downward facing side, the light source including a plurality of lamps divided into at least a first group and a second group;
- a power supply configured to provide power to the first group via a first channel and to the second group via a second channel, allowing independent control of the first group and the second group;
- and
- a lens board structure covers the plurality of lamps, the lens board structure including a plurality of domed sub-lenses, wherein the plurality of domed sub-lenses includes a first subset of lenses disposed over the first group of lamps having an asymmetrical light emittance pattern, and a second subset of lenses disposed over the second group of lamps having a symmetrical light emittance pattern, wherein
- an intensity of light directed through the second subset of lenses toward the surface of the aisle and an intensity of the light directed through the first subset of lenses toward the first side of the aisle are separately controlled via respective input powers to the first channel and the second channel.
An orientation specific luminaire system, comprising:
- a housing configured to be suspended above an aisle, the housing including a downward facing side configured to face a floor of the aisle, wherein the housing has a predetermined orientation set in relation to at least one of a longitudinal axis of the aisle and a first vertical surface that defines a first side of the aisle;
- a planar structure supporting a light source coupled to the downward facing side of the housing, the light source including a plurality of lamps;
- a lens board structure disposed over the planar structure, the lens board structure including a plurality of domed optical lenses aligned with the plurality of lamps, the plurality of domed optical lenses having asymmetrical lens optics and symmetrical lens optics;
- and
- a refractor coupled to the housing and extending downward to surround at least a portion of light emitted by the luminaire;
- wherein an intensity of light directed through the asymmetrical lens optics toward the first side of the aisle is greater than an intensity of light directed by the symmetrical lens optics toward the floor of the aisle, wherein
- the plurality of domed optical lenses includes a subset of sideways-directing lenses configured to direct light toward an inner surface of the refractor to create a glow effect on an exterior surface of the refractor.
