The present disclosure relates to an electrical system for a vehicle. The electrical system includes a port including a control pilot contact, and a controller including a power terminal for receiving a supply voltage. The power terminal of the controller is electrically coupled to the control pilot contact. The present disclosure also relates to a method. The method includes causing a ready signal to be transmitted to a charging station from a vehicle via a control pilot contact using electrical power drawn through the control pilot contact. The ready signal prompting the charging station to supply electrical power to the vehicle through at least one power supply contact.
