Superabsorbent polymer, method of making the same, and a foodstuff packaging material including the same

Abstract

The present invention is related to a superabsorbent polymer, a method of manufacturing the same, and a foodstuff packaging material including the same. By adding a gallic acid group-containing polyphenol compound into a reaction composition, the level of polymerization and the stability of a carboxyl group-containing monomer in the polymerization can be increased, thereby decreasing amounts of low-molecular-weight extractives in the obtained superabsorbent polymer. The superabsorbent polymer not only can be safe and have an antibacterial property but also maintain excellent retention capacity and absorption capacity, and can be used as the foodstuff packaging material.
