Method and apparatus for optimizing neural sensing

A method for delivering neurostimulation to a patient and sensing a neural signal from the patient using a stimulation device and a plurality of electrodes coupled to the stimulation device, the method comprising:

• controlling the delivery of the neurostimulation according to stimulation parameters;
• controlling the sensing of the neural signal according to sensing parameters, the neural signal including neural responses each being a type of response to the delivery of the neurostimulation;
• and
• determining the stimulation parameters and the sensing parameters using a processor, including:
• evaluating a sequence of test recording configurations each including a set of recording configuration parameters selected from the stimulation parameters and the sensing parameters;
• and
• identifying an optimal recording configuration from the sequence of test recording configurations using an outcome of the evaluation, the optimal recording configuration having values of the set of recording configuration parameters resulting in at least one of a maximum signal-to-noise ratio of the sensed neural signal or a maximum feature magnitude of the sensed neural signal.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions, which when executed by a system, cause the system to perform a method for delivering neurostimulation to a patient and sensing a neural signal from the patient using a stimulation device and a plurality of electrodes coupled to the stimulation device, the method comprising:

• controlling the delivery of the neurostimulation according to stimulation parameters;
• controlling the sensing of the neural signal according to sensing parameters, the neural signal including neural responses each being a type of response to the delivery of the neurostimulation;
• and
• determining the stimulation parameters and the sensing parameters, including:
• evaluating a sequence of test recording configurations each including a set of recording configuration parameters selected from the stimulation parameters and the sensing parameters;
• and
• identifying an optimal recording configuration from the sequence of test recording configurations using an outcome of the evaluation, the optimal recording configuration having values of the set of recording configuration parameters resulting in at least one of a maximum signal-to-noise ratio of the sensed neural signal or a maximum feature magnitude of the sensed neural signal.
