Abstract
Various embodiments disclosed relate to a non-stick layer for cutting elements on electrosurgical cutting tools. The present disclosure includes systems, devices, and methods of making and using a non-stick layer on cutting elements. The non-stick layer can include coatings, surface structures, or combinations thereof. In one example, the medical device includes a hydrophobic coating with a hydrophobic nanoscale physical structure. In one example, the medical device includes a heated cutting assembly, such as a resistive heated cutting assembly.
Claims11
A medical cutting device comprising:
- a longitudinal shaft having a distal portion and a proximal portion, the distal portion including:
- a cutting channel extending distally from the proximal portion of the longitudinal shaft and defining a lumen therethrough;
- a surgical jaw coupled to the distal portion of the shaft, the surgical jaw comprising:
- a cutting blade configurable for movement in and out of the channel;
- one or more electrode plates, wherein the one or more electrode plates are electrically isolated from the cutting blade;
- and
- an arrangement of homogenous hydrophobic physical structures defining adjacent like-height peaks interposed by corresponding like-depth valleys such that the adjacent peaks are separated by a uniform pitch at least partially covering the cutting blade and an interior surface of the lumen defined by the cutting channel.
