Ophthalmic surgical instruments

An ophthalmic surgical instrument, said instrument comprising:

• a hollow needle shaft portion defining a longitudinal shaft axis and having an internal aspiration passage;
• and
• an enlarged tip joined to a distal end of said needle shaft portion,
• said enlarged tip defining an open mouth communicating with said aspiration passage, said enlarged tip defining a convexly curved top surface connecting to said needle shaft portion, and said enlarged tip defining an annular flat end face disposed at an acute angle relative to a plane extending normally through said longitudinal shaft axis.

An ophthalmic surgical instrument, said instrument comprising:

• a hollow needle shaft portion defining a longitudinal shaft axis and having an internal aspiration passage;
• and
• an enlarged tip joined to a distal end of said needle shaft portion,
• said enlarged tip defining an open mouth communicating with said aspiration passage, said enlarged tip defining a convexly curved top wall defining a first radius of curvature, said enlarged tip further defining an opposing flat bottom wall located between two convexly curved side walls defining a second radius of curvature.
