A lock system for an aircraft thrust reverser is provided including a lock shaft, a solenoid, and a ratchet assembly. The lock shaft is moveable along a longitudinal axis in a first direction towards an unlocked position and in a second direction towards a locked position. The ratchet assembly includes a holding pawl, a driving pawl and axially spaced ratchet protrusions. The holding pawl is pivotable about a holding pawl pivot point. The driving pawl is pivotable about a driving pawl pivot point. A solenoid armature is configured to move through a solenoid stroke distance towards and away from a solenoid body. The driving pawl is configured to engage/disengage with a ratchet protrusion. The holding pawl is configured to allow the lock shaft to move relative to the body, and to engage with a ratchet protrusion so as to limit axial movement of the lock shaft relative to the body.
