Secure and trustworthy computing environments for exchanges

A computer system for instantiating a digital exchange for digital assets in a trusted execution environment, comprising:

• one or more data processing apparatuses including one or more processors, memory, and storage devices storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• providing, to a client device, a qualification list that specifies one or more qualifications that are to be demonstrated in order to be authorized to instantiate and run the digital exchange in the trusted execution environment;
• receiving, from the client device, (i) a request to instantiate the digital exchange, and (ii) qualification data that demonstrates that the one or more qualifications specified in the qualification list has been met by an entity that is associated with the client device;
• after receiving the request to instantiate the digital exchange, and after receiving the qualification data, (i) submitting a record of registration of the digital exchange to a record-keeping blockchain indicating that running the digital exchange by the entity is authorized, (ii) generating exchange instructions for instantiating the digital exchange, and (iii) transmitting the exchange instructions to a computing device of the entity that is configured to instantiate and run the digital exchange in the trusted execution environment;
• while the digital exchange is running in the trusted execution environment of the computing device of the entity, monitoring operations of the exchange to determine whether the exchange meets its operational requirements;
• and
• in response to determining that the operational requirements of the exchange are not being met, updating the record of registration of the digital exchange at the record-keeping blockchain to indicate that authorization for running the digital exchange in the trusted execution environment of the entity has been revoked.
