Radar Data Compression Using Hybrid Spectral Transformation

A radar system, comprising:

• a computer-readable memory device;
• a transceiver configured to:
• receive radar signals reflected from one or more objects;
• and
• sample the received radar signals to produce a first set of indexed samples and a second set of indexed samples;
• and
• a radar processing unit configured to:
• store, at the computer-readable memory device, the first set of indexed samples;
• omit the second set of indexed samples from storage at the computer-readable memory device;
• calculate and store sets of cross-correlation values for the second set of indexed samples;
• reconstruct the second set of indexed samples using the stored sets of cross-correlation values and the stored first set of indexed samples;
• and
• generate a radar map based at least in part on the reconstructed second set of indexed samples and the stored first set of indexed samples.

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing a set of executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, manipulate the one or more processors to:

• receive radar signals reflected from one or more objects;
• sampling the received radar signals to produce a first set of indexed samples and a second set of indexed samples;
• store, at a computer-readable memory device, the first set of indexed samples;
• omit the second set of indexed samples from the computer-readable memory device;
• calculate and store sets of cross-correlation values for the second set of indexed samples;
• reconstruct the second set of indexed samples using the stored sets of cross-correlation values and the stored first set of indexed samples;
• and
• generate a radar map based at least in part on the reconstructed second set of indexed samples and the stored first set of indexed samples.
