Direction finding to a target device via one or more assisting devices

A direction finding coordination node, comprising:

• one or more memories;
• one or more transceivers;
• and
• one or more processors communicatively coupled to the one or more memories and the one or more transceivers, the one or more processors, either alone or in combination, configured to:
• obtain a first plurality of ranging measurements between a first UE and a target UE;
• obtain first displacement information associated with the first UE and the first plurality of ranging measurements;
• obtain a second plurality of ranging measurements between a first assisting device and the target UE;
• obtain second displacement information associated with the first assisting device and the second plurality of ranging measurements;
• obtain first relative location information between the first UE and the first assisting device;
• and
• determine direction finding information from the first UE, the first assisting device, or both, to the target UE based on the first plurality of ranging measurements, the first displacement information, the second plurality of ranging measurements, the second displacement information and the first relative location information.

A method performed by a first user equipment (UE), comprising:

• obtaining a first set of ranging measurements between the first UE and a target UE;
• determining first relative location information between the first UE and a first assisting device;
• transmitting, to the first assisting device, a first request to obtain a second set of ranging measurements between the first assisting device and the target UE;
• receiving, from the first assisting device, the second set of ranging measurements;
• and
• determining direction finding information from the first UE to the target UE based on the first set of ranging measurements, the second set of ranging measurements, and the first relative location information.

A method performed by a direction finding coordination node, comprising:

• obtaining a first plurality of ranging measurements between a first UE and a target UE;
• obtaining first displacement information associated with the first UE and the first plurality of ranging measurements;
• obtaining a second plurality of ranging measurements between a first assisting device and the target UE;
• obtaining second displacement information associated with the first assisting device and the second plurality of ranging measurements;
• obtaining first relative location information between the first UE and the first assisting device;
• and
• determining direction finding information from the first UE, the first assisting device, or both, to the target UE based on the first plurality of ranging measurements, the first displacement information, the second plurality of ranging measurements, the second displacement information and the first relative location information.
