Abstract
A LCMD device comprises a polymer matrix and droplets of liquid crystal material dispersed in the polymer, wherein the polymer matrix or the liquid crystal includes a UV absorber. The LCMD material may be formed by phase separation with a dissolved framework polymer.
Claims15
A Liquid Crystal Micro-Droplet (LCMD) film, comprising:
- a first transparent layer coated with a first transparent conductive coating;
- a second transparent layer coated with a second transparent conductive coating;
- a liquid crystal polymer matrix disposed between the first and second transparent conductive coatings, the liquid crystal polymer matrix comprising:
- a solid polymer;
- a plurality of liquid crystal microdroplets dispersed within the solid polymer, wherein the liquid crystal microdroplets comprise a nematic liquid crystal material with a substantially rod-like molecular shape having a positive dielectric anisotropy or a negative dielectric anisotropy;
- and
- a UV absorber compound distributed within at least one of the solid polymer or the plurality of liquid crystal microdroplets to protect the LCMD film from UV damage.
