An apparatus comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to:
• predict, based on a simulation model for a plurality of knit structures of a knit design, a deformation of a knit structure of the plurality of knit structures;
• modify one or more portions of the knit structure to compensate for the deformation associated with the knit design;
• and
• send, to a knitting machine, knitting instructions associated with the one or more modified portions of the knit structure.

A non-transitory machine readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause a computing device to:

• predict, based on a simulation model for a plurality of knit structures of a knit design, a deformation of a knit structure of the plurality of knit structures;
• modify one or more portions of the knit structure to compensate for the deformation associated with the knit design;
• and
• send, to a knitting machine, knitting instructions associated with the one or more modified portions of the knit structure.
