Abstract
A multi-core fiber includes: a plurality of core portions; and a cladding portion surrounding the plurality of core portions and having a refractive index lower than a maximum refractive index of the core portions. An outer diameter of the cladding portion is within a range of 125 μm±10 μm, the number of the plurality of core portions is two to four, the plurality of core portions are constituted by two or more core portion groups, and the core portions that belong to the different core portion groups from among the plurality of core portions have different effective core areas or cutoff wavelengths at a predetermined wavelength that differ by 10% or more.

A multi-core fiber comprising:
- a plurality of core portions;
- and
- a cladding portion surrounding the plurality of core portions and having a refractive index lower than a maximum refractive index of the core portions, wherein
- an outer diameter of the cladding portion is within a range of 125 μm±10 μm,
- number of the plurality of core portions is two to four,
- the plurality of core portions are constituted by two or more core portion groups, and
- the core portions that belong to the different core portion groups from among the plurality of core portions have different effective core areas or cutoff wavelengths at a predetermined wavelength that differ by 10% or more.
