Automatic parental control based on an identified audience

A computer-implemented method, comprising:

• detecting, by at least one computer processor, an audience within a vicinity of a media device based on identification information of the audience received by the media device;
• determining a category of the audience with a user identification system based on the identification information;
• identifying a parental control setting for the audience based on the category of the audience;
• determining a category of a content played by the media device;
• and
• applying the identified parental control setting to the media device based on the category of the content.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one computing device, cause the at least one computing device to perform operations comprising:

• detecting an audience within a vicinity of a media device based on identification information of the audience received by the media device;
• determining a category of the audience with a user identification system based on the identification information;
• identifying a parental control setting for the audience based on the category of the audience;
• determining a category of a content played by the media device;
• and
• applying the parental control setting to the media device based on the category of the content.
