Friction brake for articulating arm linkage

An articulating arm, comprising:

• a first articulating arm segment comprising a second end and a first end comprising a base;
• a second articulating arm segment comprising a first end and a second end;
• a third articulating arm segment comprising a first end and a second end comprising a component support;
• and
• a first articulating linkage movably connecting the first articulating arm segment and the second articulating arm segment and a second articulating linkage movably connecting the second articulating arm segment and the third articulating arm segment, each articulating linkage comprising:
• a shaft having a first end and a second end, the shaft extending through the first articulating arm segment and the second articulating arm segment, and
• a friction brake comprising a tension block and a tension screw,
• wherein the second end of the shaft is disposed in an aperture extending through the tension block, and wherein the tension screw extends through the tension block in a direction perpendicular to the aperture.

A method of assembling a semiconductor processing chamber component comprising:

• placing a processing chamber component on a component support of an articulating arm, comprising:
• a first articulating arm segment,
• a second articulating arm segment,
• an articulating linkage movably connecting the first articulating arm segment and the second articulating arm segment, the articulating linkage comprising:
• a shaft having a first end and a second end, the shaft extending through the first articulating arm segment and the second articulating arm segment, and
• a friction brake comprising a tension block and a tension screw,
• wherein the second end of the shaft is disposed in an aperture extending through the tension block, and wherein the tension screw extends through the tension block in a direction perpendicular to the aperture;
• transitioning the articulating arm from a compressed position to an extended position or from the extended position to the compressed position;
• and
• positioning the processing chamber component.
