Permission based media composition

A system comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• at least one hardware processor coupled to the memory and comprising instructions that causes the system to perform operations comprising:
• receiving a first media object at a client device associated with a user account;
• determining that the first media object includes a reference to the user account;
• receiving an input that selects the first media object;
• determining a permission associated with the user account based on the reference to the user account within the first media object;
• presenting a set of options based on the permission;
• receiving a selection of an option from among the set of options to generate a second media object;
• accessing image data at the client device;
• and
• generating the second media object based on the first media object and the image data.

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a first media object at a client device associated with a user account;
• determining that the first media object includes a reference to the user account;
• receiving an input that selects the first media object;
• determining a permission associated with the user account based on the reference to the user account within the first media object;
• presenting a set of options based on the permission;
• receiving a selection of an option from among the set of options to generate a second media object;
• accessing image data at the client device;
• and
• generating the second media object based on the first media object and the image data.
