Driving apparatus for vibration-type actuator, and driving method thereof

A driving method for a vibration-type actuator including a vibrating body and a moving body that is in press contact with the vibrating body, the driving method comprising:

• a generation step of generating alternating-current signals of two or more phases to be applied to the vibrating body;
• a detection step of, by using first vibration detection means and second vibration detection means, detecting vibrations of the vibrating body independently of each other;
• a setting step of setting a timing of the detection by the second vibration detection means on a basis of a first output signal that is an output signal of the first vibration detection means;
• a sampling step of acquiring a sign-affixed vibration amount by sampling either a second output signal that is an output signal of the second vibration detection means or an output signal obtained through subtraction of the first output signal and the second output signal at the timing set in the setting step;
• and
• an arithmetic operation step of calculating a vibration vector in a direction of movement of the moving body on a basis of the sign-affixed vibration amount.
