Abstract
A nanomedicinal composition comprising a nanocarrier and an antioxidant. The nanocarrier contains a metal organic framework and a porous silicate and/or aluminosilicate matrix. The antioxidant is disposed in the pores and/or on the surface of the nanocarrier by a solution phase impregnation process. The nanomedicinal composition is used in a method of treating Blastocystis infection.

The method of claim 16, wherein the nanomedicinal composition is capable of reducing the viability of Blastocystis organisms by at least 75% when the nanomedicinal composition is present for 24 hours in an amount of 100 to 1000 μg/mL.
A method of forming a nanomedicinal composition, the method comprising:
- mixing a metal organic framework and a structured nano-mesosilica to form a nanocarrier;
- combining the nanocarrier and an antioxidant in an impregnation solution thereby forming the nanomedicinal composition;
- and
- isolating the nanomedicinal composition;
- wherein the metal organic framework is a zeolitic imidazolate framework;
- the antioxidant is disposed in the pores and/or on a surface of the nanocarrier;
- and
- wherein the antioxidant is at least one selected from the group consisting of quercetin, rutin, coenzyme Q10, gallic acid, resveratrol, and curcumin.
