Rollable optical fiber ribbon with low attenuation, large mode field diameter optical fiber and cable

An optical fiber cable, comprising:

• a cable jacket defining an exterior surface of the cable and a central bore;
• and
• a cable core disposed within the central bore, the cable core comprising:
• a plurality of optical fiber groups, each of the optical fiber groups comprising a respective plurality of optical fibers, wherein each of the plurality of optical fibers has an outer diameter less than or equal to 210 microns;
• and
• a plurality of grouping elements, wherein each of the grouping elements surrounds and contains a respective optical fiber group in the optical fiber groups, wherein a core fiber density is defined as a total number of optical fibers in the cable core divided by a cross-sectional area of the cable core as determined from a minimum cable core diameter, and wherein the core fiber density is greater than 7.12 fibers per square millimeter.

An optical fiber cable, comprising:

• a cable jacket defining an exterior surface of the cable and a central bore;
• and
• a cable core disposed within the central bore, the cable core comprising:
• a plurality of grouping elements;
• and
• a plurality of optical fibers each disposed in one of the grouping elements, such that each of the plurality of grouping elements surrounds one or more of the optical fibers, wherein each of the optical fibers comprises:
• a core;
• and
• a cladding, wherein the cladding has a trench region, the trench region having a lower index of refraction than a remainder of the cladding, and wherein a volume of the trench region is greater than 30% Δμm2, wherein further each of the optical fibers has an outside diameter of less than or equal to 210 microns;
• wherein further a core fiber density of the optical fiber cable is greater than 7.12 fibers per square millimeter, wherein the core fiber density is defined as a total number of optical fibers in the cable core divided by a cross-sectional area of the cable core as determined from a minimum cable core diameter.
