Abstract
The invention provides a medical device comprising a fluoropolymer surface comprising at least one species independently chosen from: a carboxybetaine, a sulfobetaine, and combinations and/or polymers thereof.
Claims29
A medical device comprising a fluoropolymer surface comprising at least one species independently chosen from:
- a carboxybetaine, a sulfobetaine, and combinations and/or polymers thereof.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the at least one species comprises a carboxybetaine and/or a polymer thereof.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the at least one species comprises at least one poly(carboxybetaine) and/or at least one poly(sulfobetaine) polymer.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the at least one species is adsorbed to the fluoropolymer surface, and wherein the at least one species is preferably physisorbed and/or chemisorbed to the fluoropolymer surface.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the at least one species is covalently and/or ionically/electrostatically bonded to the fluoropolymer surface.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the at least one species is bonded to the fluoropolymer surface via a linker.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the at least one species is present at a total concentration of at least 0.5 wt. % of the medical device.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the medical device comprises a tubular body comprising the fluoropolymer surface, and wherein the fluoropolymer surface preferably comprises an outer surface of the tubular body, and preferably comprises at least 70% of the outer surface area of the tubular body.
A medical device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the medical device is a cannula or a catheter.
An infusion set or patch pump comprising a cannula comprising a fluoropolymer surface comprising at least one species independently chosen from:
- a carboxybetaine, a sulfobetaine, and combinations and/or polymers thereof.
Use of at least one species that is independently chosen from:
- a carboxybetaine, a sulfobetaine, and combinations and/or polymers thereof, as a protein-repellent in and/or on a medical device.
Dependencies are inferred from the claim text.
