Abstract
The present application provides methods, compositions and kits for determining SHD catabody levels in a biological sample, and for treating or preventing a protein aggregation disease (PAD) in an individual. Also provided are catabodies specifically recognizing amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides and methods of use thereof.

A method for determining a risk for Alzheimer's disease or dementia in an individual, wherein the Alzheimer's disease or dementia is associated with aggregation of a target protein, comprising determining the level of one or more SHD catabodies in a biological sample of the individual, wherein the individual is determined as having a risk for the Alzheimer's disease or dementia if the level of the one or more SHD catabodies is lower than a control SHD catabody level, and wherein the target protein is Tau or amyloid β (Aβ).
