Abstract
In example a panel for an overhead sectional door is provided. The panel includes a laminate core, a laminate skin, and a universal fabric hinge. The laminate skin is coupled to two opposing sides of the laminate core. The universal fabric hinge is coupled to the laminate skin to connect the panel to an adjacent panel of the overhead sectional door.
Claims20
A panel for an overhead sectional door, comprising:
- a laminate core;
- a first laminate skin coupled to a first side of the laminate core, the first laminate skin comprising a first stack of four composite plies;
- and
- a second laminate skin coupled to a second side of the laminate core, the second laminate skin comprising a second stack of four composite plies, wherein the first stack of four composite plies and the second stack of four composite plies each comprises a first ply that is a zero-degree ply, a second ply that is a 90-degree ply, a third ply that is a 90-degree ply, and a fourth ply that is a zero-degree ply, wherein the second side is opposite the first side.

An overhead sectional door, comprising:
- a track system;
- a first laminate panel movably coupled to the track system;
- a second laminate panel movably coupled to the track system;
- and
- a universal fabric hinge, comprising:
- a plurality of through-holes symmetrically arranged in the universal fabric hinge;
- and
- a plurality of visual fold lines, wherein the plurality of visual fold lines is capable of being folded into two different orientations, the plurality of visual fold lines, comprising:
- a first visual fold line located at a mid-point of a height of the universal fabric hinge;
- a second visual fold line located at a bottom quarter of the height of the universal fabric hinge;
- a third visual fold line located at an angle relative to the first fold line;
- and
- a fourth visual fold line located at an angle relative to the first visual fold line, wherein the first visual fold line, the third visual fold line, and the fourth visual fold line are arranged to form an isosceles triangle,
- wherein the first laminate panel is mechanically connected to a lower edge of the second laminate panel via the universal fabric hinge that is folded into a first orientation of the two different orientations to form a laminate-to-laminate center hinge.

An overhead sectional door, comprising:
- a track system;
- a non-laminate panel movably coupled to the track system;
- a laminate panel movably coupled to the track system;
- and
- a universal fabric hinge, comprising:
- a plurality of through-holes symmetrically arranged in the universal fabric hinge;
- and
- a plurality of visual fold lines, wherein the plurality of visual fold lines is capable of being folded into two different orientations, the plurality of visual fold lines, comprising:
- a first visual fold line located at a mid-point of a height of the universal fabric hinge;
- a second visual fold line located at a bottom quarter of the height of the universal fabric hinge;
- a third visual fold line located at an angle relative to the first fold line;
- and
- a fourth visual fold line located at an angle relative to the first visual fold line, wherein the first visual fold line, the third visual fold line, and the fourth visual fold line are arranged to form an isosceles triangle,
- wherein the laminate panel is mechanically connected to a lower edge of the non-laminate panel via the universal fabric hinge that is folded into a second orientation of the two different orientations to form a laminate-to-non-laminate center hinge.
