Abstract
An implantable biopolymer scaffold includes at least one braided strand comprising high strength collagen fibers and synthetic fibers, wherein the collagen fibers have a greater cross-sectional deformability than the synthetic fibers.

A method of manufacture, comprising:
- braiding together at least a first wound subassembly with at least one additional synthetic fiber to form a braided construct,
- wherein, prior to said braiding together, the first wound subassembly includes a first initial synthetic fiber wound around a first high-strength collagen fiber in a clockwise direction and a second initial synthetic fiber wound around the first high-strength collagen fiber in a counterclockwise direction such that the first initial synthetic fiber and the second initial synthetic fiber repeatedly cross one another while extending in a longitudinal direction along the first high-strength collagen fiber.
A method of manufacture, comprising:
- braiding together a first wound subassembly with at least a second wound subassembly to form a braided construct,
- wherein, prior to said braiding together, the first wound subassembly includes a first initial synthetic fiber wound around a first high-strength collagen fiber in a clockwise direction and a second initial synthetic fiber wound around the first high-strength collagen fiber in a counterclockwise direction such that the first initial synthetic fiber and the second initial synthetic fiber repeatedly cross one another while extending in a longitudinal direction along the first high-strength collagen fiber,
- wherein, prior to said braiding together, the second wound subassembly includes a third initial synthetic fiber wound around a second high-strength collagen fiber.
A method of manufacture, comprising:
- braiding together a number of wound subassemblies with a number of additional synthetic fibers to form a braided construct,
- wherein the number of wound subassemblies is greater than the number of additional synthetic fibers,
- wherein the number of wound subassemblies includes a first wound subassembly,
- wherein, prior to said braiding together, the first wound subassembly includes at least a first initial synthetic fiber wound around a first high-strength collagen fiber.
