System and method for reference signal configuration, transmission and reception

A method comprising:

• communicating a reference signal on a reference signal resource pattern, wherein the reference signal resource pattern is derived by or mapped by a topology structure and parameters of the topology structure, and
• wherein the topology structure and the parameters are indicated by signaling from a base station or a network element or a user equipment.

An apparatus comprising:

• one or more processors, when executing program instructions stored in the apparatus, cause the apparatus to perform operations including:
• communicating a reference signal on a reference signal resource pattern, wherein the reference signal resource pattern is derived by or mapped by a topology structure and parameters of the topology structure, and
• wherein the topology structure and the parameters are indicated by signaling from a base station or a network element or a user equipment.
