Method and System for Compression of Radar Signals

A method comprising:

• receiving blocks of range values generated from processing received radar signals;
• for a block of range values, determining a compression parameter including a scale factor for a type of compression to yield a compressed output of the block of range values that is less than or equal to a specified size;
• compressing the block of range values using the type of compression to generate a compressed block of range values based on the compression parameter;
• and
• storing the compressed block of range values in radar data memory.

A method comprising:

• receiving blocks of range values generated from processing received radar signals;
• for each block of range values, determining a type of compression to be used, determining a compression parameter including a scale factor for the determined type of compression to yield a compressed output of the block of range values that is less than or equal to a specified size;
• for each block of range values, compressing the block of range values using the determined type of compression to generate a compressed block of range values based on the compression parameter;
• and
• storing each of the compressed blocks of range values in radar data memory,
• wherein, for at least a first block of range values, a first type of compression is determined and used to compress the first block of range values, and for at least a second block of range values, a second type of compression is determined and used to compress the second block of range values.
