The separator includes a porous substrate and a coating layer disposed on at least one surface of the porous substrate. The coating layer includes a three-dimensional skeleton structure and a first filler. At least part of the first filler is filled in the three-dimensional skeleton structure. An average particle size of the first filler is less than or equal to 200 nm. This application allows the secondary battery to achieve balance among high energy density, high thermal safety performance, long cycle life, and good kinetic performance.
