An integration system is provided that defines a first network of computer systems that establish communication protocols and security requirements. The architecture includes a layered data model, where the architecture and/or model enable improvement over conventional security, data redundancy, and further improves communication/execution efficiency. The first network can be tailored to perform distributed operations, and for example, integrate the distributed operations transparently into existing systems, so that the new functionality is seamless and indistinguishable from native data/database operations. The data model can be configured to associate layers of the model with respective systems and distribute operations such that real world analogs for the data are held across many systems. Various interface elements integrate into existing DBS, and provide visualization of distributed functionality within the DBS environment.
