Abstract
Calibration of ranging constellations in wireless networks The invention relates to a wireless system and methods for managing and/or configuring ranging capable devices to form a ranging constellation to support ranging-based positioning services. Multiple challenges in determining a need for calibration in ranging services to improve accuracy and/or reduce power consumption are addressed.
Claims34
A device comprising:
- a processor circuit and a memory circuit, wherein the memory is arranged to store instructions for the processor circuit,
- wherein the processor circuit is arranged to determine a timing difference between a target mobile device and an anchor device of a ranging constellation,
- wherein the timing difference supports a positioning service provided in a wireless network,
- wherein the processor circuit is arranged to initiate a calibration procedure in response to a detection that the timing difference has exceeded a threshold.

A device comprising:
- a processor circuit and a memory circuit, wherein the memory is arranged to store instructions for the processor circuit,
- wherein the processor circuit is arranged to monitor at least one resource capability of a plurality of anchor devices,
- wherein a ranging constellation comprises the plurality of anchor devices
- wherein the processor circuit is arranged to reduce power consumption by selecting at least one of the plurality of anchor devices or restricting a location determination or restricting the ranging service to a specific direction or distance based on the monitored resource capability,
- wherein the location determination comprises ranging and positioning services to a ranging service.

A method comprising:
- determining a timing difference between a target mobile device and an anchor device of a ranging constellation, wherein the timing difference supports a positioning service provided in a wireless network;
- and
- initiating a calibration procedure in response to a detection that the timing difference has exceeded a threshold level.
A method comprising:
- monitoring at least one resource capability of a plurality of anchor devices, wherein a ranging constellation comprises the plurality of anchor devices;
- and
- reducing power consumption by selecting at least one of the plurality of anchor devices or restricting a location determination or restricting the ranging service to a specific direction or distance based on the monitored resource capability,
