Abstract

Sample collection and dispensing devices and methods for collecting and dispensing a sample fluid using the devices. The devices and methods may provide a plunger for holding a sample collection sponge and a flexible and/or squeezable barrel having an open end for receiving the plunger and sample collection sponge and a closed end. The plunger may include one or more flow channels operable to dispense a fluid from the barrel. A sample volume is collected using the sample collection sponge. the plunger is inserted into the barrel, and the sponge is compressed against the closed end of the barrel. causing sample liquid to flow from the sponge into the one or more flow channels in the plunger. Sample fluid may be stored in the device. The devices and methods provide a way of manually collecting, storing, and dispensing a precise amount of a sample liquid. such as saliva.
