Methods and systems for precoding matrix indicator generation

A communication system comprising a first radio transceiver device, RTD, and a second RTD, the communication system configured to generate a precoding matrix indicator, PMI, for channel state information, CSI, compression, the first RTD comprising processing circuitry and a memory containing instructions executable by the processing circuitry, whereby the first RTD is operable to:

• receive, from the second RTD, a reference signal;
• estimate CSI based on the received reference signal;
• generate a PMI to perform CSI compression, wherein the PMI indicates a precoding matrix, selected from among a codebook of precoding matrices, based on orthogonal matching pursuit, OMP, processing of the estimated CSI;
• generate a compressed CSI based on the generated PMI for transmission to the second RTD;
• and
• transmit the compressed CSI to the second RTD, and
• the second RTD comprising processing circuitry and a memory containing instructions executable by the processing circuitry, whereby the second RTD is operable to:
• transmit, to the first RTD, the reference signal;
• and
• receive, from the first RTD, the compressed CSI.
