Abstract
Disclosed are a separator for a rechargeable lithium battery and a rechargeable lithium battery including the same. The separator for a rechargeable lithium battery includes a substrate and a heat resistant layer on at least one surface of the substrate, wherein the heat resistant layer includes heterogeneous particles having different shapes, shutdown filler at least one of under, inside, or on the heat resistant layer.

A separator for a rechargeable lithium battery, the separator comprising:
- a substrate and a heat resistant layer on at least one surface of the substrate;
- wherein the heat resistant layer includes heterogeneous particles having different shapes;
- the separator further comprising a shutdown filler at least one of under, inside, and on the heat resistant layer.
