Storage device performing dummy read operation, and method of operating the same

A storage device comprising:

• a non-volatile memory device including a temperature sensor;
• and
• a storage controller configured to,
• provide a temperature read command to the non-volatile memory device, to receive a measurement temperature value measured by the temperature sensor, and to compare the measurement temperature value with a first threshold value or a second threshold value, the first threshold value being lower than the second threshold value,
• execute an activate mode when the measurement temperature value is lower than the first threshold value, and
• execute a passive mode when the measurement temperature value is greater than or equal to the first threshold value and is lower than the second threshold value, and
• wherein the activate mode defines a dummy read operation for heating.

An operating method of a storage controller which communicates with a non-volatile memory device, the method comprising:

• providing the non-volatile memory device with a first command indicating a temperature read operation;
• receiving a first measurement temperature value from the non-volatile memory device;
• determining whether the first measurement temperature value is lower than a first threshold value;
• providing the non-volatile memory device with a second command indicating a dummy read operation in response to determining that the first measurement temperature value is lower than the first threshold value;
• and
• receiving a first response indicating that the dummy read operation is completed, from the non-volatile memory device.
