Abstract
A fiber array unit (FAU) and the method for forming the same are provided. The FAU includes a substrate, fiber grooves, and light guiding elements. The substrate has a first region and a second region which are continuous and connected. The fiber grooves are formed in the first region. The light guiding elements are formed in the second region. The fiber grooves are aligned with the light guiding elements, respectively.
Claims20
A fiber array unit (FAU), comprising:
- a substrate having a first region and a second region which are continuous and connected;
- a plurality of fiber grooves formed in the first region;
- and
- a plurality of light guiding elements formed in the second region, wherein the fiber grooves are aligned with the light guiding elements, respectively.

A method of forming a fiber array unit (FAU), comprising:
- providing a substrate comprising a material that allows ultraviolet (UV) light to pass through;
- forming a plurality of fiber grooves in a first region of the substrate;
- and
- forming a plurality of light guiding elements in a second region of the substrate, wherein the first region and the second region are continuous and connected.
1 more element
A fiber array unit (FAU), comprising:
- a glass substrate having a first region and a second region which are continuous and connected;
- a plurality of fiber grooves formed in the first region;
- a plurality of waveguides formed in the second region and aligned with the plurality of fiber grooves, wherein no adhesive is formed between one of the plurality of waveguides and a corresponding one of the plurality of fiber grooves;
- and
- at least one reflector formed at one end opposite the plurality of fiber grooves in the second region.
