Abstract
A composition of matter comprising genetically modified bacteria of the Bacillus genus which over-express cyclodipeptide synthase (YvmC) and/or cytochrome P450 oxidase (CypX) is disclosed. The bacteria synthesize at least twice the amount of pulcherriminic acid as compared to the amount synthesized in a non-genetically modified bacteria of a corresponding strain.
Claims17
A composition of matter comprising genetically modified bacteria of the Bacillus genus which over-express cyclodipeptide synthase (YvmC) and/or cytochrome P450 oxidase (CypX), wherein said bacteria synthesize at least twice the amount of pulcherriminic acid as compared to the amount synthesized in a non-genetically modified bacteria of a corresponding strain.
A method of generating pulcherriminic acid comprising culturing recombinant bacteria of the Bacillus genus genetically modified to over-express cyclodipeptide synthase (YvmC) and/or cytochrome P450 oxidase (CypX) in a culture medium under conditions that said bacteria synthesize at least twice the amount of pulcherriminic acid as compared to the amount synthesized in a non-genetically modified bacteria of a corresponding strain, thereby generating pulcherriminic acid.
A composition comprising:
- (i) a probiotic bacteria;
- and
- (ii) pulcherriminic acid and/or pulcherrimin,
- wherein said probiotic bacteria in the composition is incapable of endogenously synthesizing pulcherriminic acid.
A method of treating a yeast infection in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a purified preparation of pulcherriminic acid, thereby treating the yeast infection.
