Abstract
A game controller can provide input to a video game played on a mobile computing device. Some games require a touch input on the touch screen of a mobile computing device, but a game controller may not have its own touch screen to receive and provide the required touch input. The game controller can be manually configured by a user of the game controller to convert an actuation of a control surface (e.g., a button, joystick, etc.) of the game controller to a touch screen input.
Claims21
A method comprising:
- performing in a computing device configured to communicate with a game controller:
- receiving a representation of a configuration of a game that is not in live play, wherein the representation of the configuration of the game displays an indication of a touch screen input region;
- receiving a user selection of one of a plurality of representations of control surfaces of the game controller;
- receiving a user selection of one of a plurality of use options of the user-selected representation, wherein each of the plurality of use options comprises different combinations of touch gestures;
- displaying, on the representation of the configuration of the game, the user-selected representation of the control surface of the game controller.
- receiving user input that moves a position of the user-selected representation of the control surface of the game controller at least partially over the indication of the touch screen input region;
- and
- in response to the position of the user-selected representation of the control surface of the game controller being at least partially over the indication of the touch screen input region, creating a map configured to convert an input representing actuation of the control surface of the game controller into a virtual combination of touch gestures, as specified by the user-selected use option.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing program instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing device, cause the one or more processors of the computing device to perform functions comprising:
- receiving a screen shot of a game, wherein the screen shot is captured using the computing device and displays an indication of a touch screen input region;
- displaying, on the screen shot, a representation of a control surface of a game controller;
- receiving user input that moves a position of the representation of the control surface of the game controller at least partially over the indication of the touch screen input region;
- and
- in response to the position of the representation of the control surface of the game controller being at least partially over the indication of the touch screen input region, creating a map configured to convert an input representing actuation of the control surface of the game controller into a virtual touch screen input to the touch screen input region.
A computing device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- non-transitory computer-readable medium storing program instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors of the computing device, cause the one or more processors to perform functions comprising:
- receiving a photo of a game, wherein photo displays an indication of a touch screen input region;
- receiving a user selection of one of a plurality of representations of control surfaces of the game controller;
- receiving a user selection of a hold-to-aim configuration;
- displaying, on the photo, the user-selected representation of the control surface of the game controller;
- receiving user input that moves a position of the user-selected representation of the control surface of the game controller at least partially over the indication of the touch screen input region;
- and
- in response to the position of the user-selected representation of the control surface of the game controller being at least partially over the indication of the touch screen input region, creating a map configured to convert an input representing actuation of the control surface of the game controller into a virtual combination of touch gestures in response to actuation of another control surface of the game controller, as specified by the hold-to-aim configuration.
