Abstract
Approaches for granting control of robotic surgery systems located at patient-side locations are disclosed. Prior to granting control, disclosed approaches verify one or more of: compatibility of a surgeon console with a patient-side robotic surgery system, that a two-way audio and/or video communication between the patient side and surgeon side has been established, and that at least one network connection between the surgeon console and the patient-side robotic surgery system satisfies one or more network condition criteria. Disclosed approaches safeguard patient safety.

1-20. (canceled)
A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
- establish a session between a robotic procedure console of a plurality of robotic procedure consoles and a patient-side robotic procedure system of a plurality of patient-side robotic procedure systems to allow a physician collocated with the robotic procedure console to remotely control at least one instrument or at least one imaging system of the patient-side robotic procedure system and perform a medical procedure on a patient collocated with the patient-side robotic procedure system, the robotic procedure console being located remotely from the patient-side robotic procedure system, the session being established responsive to:
- verifying that the robotic procedure console is compatible with the patient-side robotic procedure system;
- and
- verifying that at least one network connection between the robotic procedure console and the patient-side robotic procedure system satisfies at least one network condition criterion.
A method for remotely controlling a medical procedure, the method comprising:
- establishing a session between a robotic procedure console collocated with a physician and a patient-side robotic procedure system collocated with a patient to allow the physician to remotely control at least one instrument or at least one imaging system of the patient-side robotic procedure system and perform the medical procedure on the patient, the robotic procedure console being located remotely from the patient-side robotic procedure system, the session being established responsive to:
- verifying that the robotic procedure console is compatible with the patient-side robotic procedure system;
- and
- verifying that at least one network connection between the robotic procedure console and the patient-side robotic procedure system satisfies at least one network condition criterion,
- wherein the method is performed under control of one or more processors.
A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
- establish a session between a robotic procedure console collocated with a physician and a patient-side robotic procedure system collocated with a patient to allow the physician to remotely control at least one instrument or at least one imaging system of the patient-side robotic procedure system and perform a medical procedure on the patient, the robotic procedure console being located remotely from the patient-side robotic procedure system, the session being established by:
- establishing a connection for a two-way transmission of at least audio data between the physician and one or more medical personnel collocated with the patient;
- responsive to establishing the connection for the two-way transmission of at least audio data, causing transmission of control data from the robotic procedure console to the patient-side robotic procedure system for controlling the at least one instrument or the at least one imaging system of the patient-side robotic procedure system;
- and
- responsive to failing to establish the connection for the two-way transmission of at least audio data, disallowing transmission of control data from the robotic procedure console to the patient-side robotic procedure system for controlling the at least one instrument or the at least one imaging system of the patient-side robotic procedure system.
