Abstract
A surgical robotic system includes a laparoscopic access port which includes a cannula and a top portion having a diameter. The system also includes a surgical robotic arm including a port latch, the port latch including a movable arm for closing at least partially around the top portion of the access port. The system additionally includes a position sensor for detecting a position of the movable arm and a controller for determining a type of the access port based on the detected position of the movable arm.
Claims20
A surgical robotic system comprising:
- a laparoscopic access port including a cannula and a top portion having a diameter;
- a surgical robotic arm including a port latch, the port latch including at least one movable arm for closing at least partially around the top portion of the access port;
- a position sensor for detecting a position of the at least one movable arm;
- and
- a controller for determining a type of the access port based on the detected position of the at least one movable arm.
A method for determining a type of access port in a surgical robotic system, the method comprising:
- engaging a laparoscopic access port, including a cannula and a top portion having a diameter, with a port latch of a surgical robotic arm, the port latch having at least one movable arm for closing at least partially around the top portion of the access port;
- detecting a position of the at least one movable arm using a position sensor;
- and
- determining, by a controller, a type of the access port based on the detected position of the at least one movable arm.
