Abstract
Devices, systems and methods are described herein that enable and make assessments related to pregnancy, including assessments related to a labor-related status such as the onset of true labor. In some embodiments, a pregnancy monitoring system comprises a portable, noninvasive data acquisition device adhered to a patient's skin, comprising at least two electrodes to measure uterine electrical activity, signal processing means, data storage means, and a battery. Systems for notification of the labor-related status are described.
Claims20
A method for monitoring the status of a pregnancy, the method comprising:
- electrically coupling at least two electrodes to skin of a pregnant female using one or more adhesive patches;
- receiving a processed uterine activity signal generated from measured uterine electrical activity;
- computing from the processed uterine activity signal one or more of the following computed values:
- a conduction velocity associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- a peak frequency associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- a parameter associated with both the conduction velocity associated with the uterine electrical activity as well as the peak frequency associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- comparing to a threshold value the one or more of the following:
- the conduction velocity associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- the peak frequency associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- the parameter associated with both the conduction velocity associated with the uterine electrical activity as well as the peak frequency associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- and
- transitioning from a first mode to a second mode if the threshold value is exceeded by the one or more of the following:
- the conduction velocity associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- the peak frequency associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- the parameter associated with both the conduction velocity associated with the uterine electrical activity as well as the peak frequency associated with the uterine electrical activity;
- wherein transitioning comprises enabling delivery of a notification related to a likelihood of onset of true labor, wherein delivery of the notification was not enabled in the first mode.
