Systems and methods for allowing a user to access blocked media

A method comprising:

• receiving a request to access a media asset that is blocked for a first user;
• causing transmission, to a device of a second user who has authority to approve access to the blocked media asset for the first user, of a notification that the first user has requested access to the blocked media asset;
• determining that approval to access the blocked media asset has not been received from the device of the second user;
• and
• based at least in part on determining that the approval has not been received, causing display at the device of the first user of a message indicating that the first user cannot access the blocked media asset.

A system comprising:

• control circuitry;
• and
• input/output (I/O) circuitry configured to:
• receive a request to access a media asset that is blocked for a first user;
• cause transmission, to a device of a second user who has authority to approve access to the blocked media asset for the first user, of a notification that the first user has requested access to the blocked media asset;
• wherein the control circuitry is configured to:
• determine that approval to access the blocked media asset has not been received from the device of the second user;
• and
• wherein the I/O is configured to:
• based at least in part on determining that the approval has not been received, cause display at the device of the first user of a message indicating that the first user cannot access the blocked media asset.
