Data processing in cloud environments

A system, comprising:

• a service having one or more processors coupled with memory, the service configured to:
• identify a plurality of identifiers defined in accordance with a sequence of processing of datasets associated one or more of a plurality of applications in a cloud environment, the plurality of identifiers comprising at least a first identifier corresponding to a first application;
• communicate at least a portion of a first dataset with a first server hosting the first application of the plurality of applications corresponding to the first identifier identified in the sequence, to receive a second dataset generated by the first application;
• determine, responsive to receiving the second dataset, that the sequence of processing identifies a second application of the plurality of applications;
• and
• responsive to determining that the sequence identifies the second application, generate (i) a second identifier indicating the first application as a predecessor for the second dataset and (ii) a third identifier indicating the second application as a successor to process the second dataset.
