Dynamic Computation of System Response Volume

A non-transitory computer-readable medium, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium is provisioned with program instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a system to:

• cause a first speaker of a first network device to play back audio content in synchrony with playback of audio content by a second speaker of a second network device that is configured for synchronous playback of audio content with the first network device;
• receive, via a first microphone associated with the first network device, a voice input;
• determine, based on the received voice input, that a requirement exists to output a system response via the first speaker;
• in response to determining that a requirement exists to output a system response:
• based on (i) an audio playback volume for one or both of the first and second network devices and (ii) the configuration of the second network device for synchronous playback of audio content with the first network device, set a system response volume for the first speaker;
• and
• cause the first speaker to output a system response at the set system response volume while the first speaker and the second speaker play back the audio content.

A method implemented by a system, the method comprising:

• causing a first speaker of a first network device to play back audio content in synchrony with playback of audio content by a second speaker of a second network device that is configured for synchronous playback of audio content with the first network device;
• receive, via a first microphone associated with the first network device, a voice input;
• determining, based on the received voice input, that a requirement exists to output a system response via the first speaker;
• in response to determining that a requirement exists to output a system response:
• based on (i) an audio playback volume for one or both of the first and second network devices and (ii) the configuration of the second network device for synchronous playback of audio content with the first network device, setting a system response volume for the first speaker;
• and
• causing the first speaker to output a system response at the set system response volume while the first speaker and the second speaker play back the audio content.
