The dichroic substance forms an associate, and when, in a cross section of the light absorption anisotropic film observed with a scanning transmission electron microscope, 100 associates are selected, a number of associates B in which a length of a major axis is 30 nm or more and less than 60 nm is denoted by Nb, and a number of associates C in which a length of a major axis is 60 nm or more is denoted by Nc, Nb>Nc.
