Abstract
The present disclosure provides a diffractive display for displaying a diffracted image, an article, comprising the diffractive display, and methods of forming a display for displaying a diffracted image.
Claims21
A diffractive display for displaying a diffracted image at a viewing angle, comprising:
- a layer having a plurality of frame-pixels corresponding to the diffracted image, each frame-pixel corresponding to the diffracted image including at least one diffractive structure disposed on the layer configured to have a fundamental diffraction order along the viewing angle of the diffracted image, the at least one diffractive structure disposed in a first region of the layer of the frame-pixel, and at least some of the frame-pixels corresponding to the image comprising absorptive metastructures disposed on the layer, the absorptive metastructures configured to have a light absorption resonance in the visible spectrum, the absorptive metastructures disposed in a second region of the layer of the pixel that is nonoverlapping with the first region.
A method of forming a display for displaying a diffracted image, comprising:
- imprinting a resin layer with a mold to form a patterned surface comprising a plurality of facets, at least some of the facets comprising a diffractive structure and at least some of the facets comprising nanostructures;
- and
- forming a functionalizing layer of a metal or a high refractive index dielectric material on the patterned layer, the functionalizing layer and nanostructures of the facets forming absorptive metastructures, wherein the patterned surface and functionalizing layer form a plurality of frame-pixels corresponding to the diffracted image, at least some of the frame pixels comprising at least one diffractive structure, the at least one diffractive structure occupying a first region of the corresponding frame-pixel;
- and
- wherein at least some of the frame-pixels including absorptive metastructures, the absorptive metastructures configured to have a light absorption resonance in the visible spectrum, the absorptive metastructure occupying a second region of the patterned surface that is non-overlapping with the first region.
